Sterre Hond

Sterre Hond (2001) is a classically trained pianist who graduated from the Conservatory in Rotterdam. Her unique
ability to experience colors while playing the piano – synesthesia – makes her compose in
a special way. Her pieces are auditory paintings and the piano keys her color palette.
In her words: “I see myself as a kind of musical alchemist. Music is always a multi-
sensory experience for me, and so it feels logical to express myself that way.”
Graduated as a classical pianist from the Rotterdam Conservatory, Sterre discovered her
passion for composing and improvising. Her refined and sensitive playing and
composition style sets her apart from others. With her music she wants to capture and
express the mystical and mysterious sides of life. On stage, Sterre enhances her
compositions with transformative light projections into multidisciplinary concerts that
make synesthesia tangible for her audience.
Since 2023, Sterre works as an assistant to film composer Alex Simu. For the
documentaries Mother Suriname and Nesjomme she played the piano parts. Sterre was
heard live several times with her own compositions on NPO Klassiek. In 2024 she
performed together with Wibi Soerjadi in TivoliVredenburg during the NPO Podcastfestival
Keihard Klassiek, where she performed her own music. In 2025, Sterre was a guest on Radio 1 on *“De Nacht van…”, a program by BNNVARA.
