Holly Baines

Since she started learning piano as a little girl listening to her dad, Holly Baines has always been fascinated by the ability to bring beauty out of the mundane.

Growing up in New Zealand gave her a love of nature, a deep wanderlust, and a keen eye for seeing the hidden charm of new and old places alike.

This fascination with unexpected beauty has infused her compositions with a sense of exploration: of drawing stories and dreams out of nothing and allowing oneself to truly enjoy and appreciate the intricate but fleeting experiences that are too often overshadowed by the busyness of life.

When she started playing piano in her church, she soon realized the connective impact of improvisation and allowing ones thoughts and emotions to be expressed freely through music. No experience is alike, no story is told the same way twice, and no emotion is identical to another. Life is full of beautiful imperfections. This is why Holly Baines believes that embracing the art of thoughtful improvisation can help connect with listeners in a deeper way and facilitate reverie, prayer, meditation, and the processing emotions.
